Introduction

A Function Generator is a device that produces repetitive electrical waveforms. It's used as a signal source to test amplifiers, filters, and other circuits.

Key Controls

  • Waveform Selector: Choose between Sine, Square, Triangle, and Pulse.
  • Frequency Knob: Adjusts how many cycles per second (Hz, kHz, MHz).
  • Amplitude Knob: Adjusts the peak-to-peak voltage (Vpp).
  • DC Offset: Shifts the entire waveform up or down relative to 0V.
  • Duty Cycle: For square waves, adjusts the ratio of ON time to OFF time.

Safety First

  • Never connect the output of a function generator directly to a power source.
  • Start with low amplitude (e.g., 1Vpp) before increasing it.
  • Ensure the ground of the generator is common with your circuit's ground.
